Two air travelers were detained at Bohol-Panglao International Airport after making a bomb joke on a Cebu Pacific flight.
The incident occurred upon landing on Saturday, leading to a security response by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
Following the report from airport personnel, CAAP’s Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) initiated safety protocols, including a full security inspection of the aircraft after the pilot requested the cabin and baggage be cleared.
After more than an hour, authorities confirmed there was no explosive threat, and flight operations resumed. CAAP assured that all passengers and crew were safe.
CAAP emphasized that bomb jokes are a serious offense under Presidential Decree No. 1727, which prohibits false bomb threats, carrying penalties of up to five years imprisonment or a P40,000 fine.
Travelers are urged to be responsible with their statements to ensure the safety and security of all passengers.
