Angeles City in Pampanga takes the lead in prioritizing public education and sustainability. This as Mayor Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. inaugurated on March 6 the Belen Homesite Elementary School, reputedly the first fully solar-powered public elementary school in Central Luzon and a trailblazer for the entire country.
The project demonstrates that local governments can take bold steps to modernize public schools, integrating renewable energy for long-term efficiency and sustainability.
“This school is a showcase of Angeles City’s commitment to education and sustainability for the entire Philippines,” Lazatin said. “It proves that local governments can prioritize public schools, ensuring that they are modern, energy-efficient, and conducive to learning. With a total of 32 kVA solar panels, Belen Homesite Elementary School stands as a model for other cities to follow, demonstrating that renewable energy can power our classrooms.”
The P3-million school features seven new air-conditioned classrooms and can accommodate approximately 170 students.
