CEBU CITY – PhilHealth members in Central Visayas can now access mental health services under the state insurer’s Outpatient Mental Health Benefits Package, which provides financial support for consultations, diagnostics, and treatment.
The package, outlined in PhilHealth Circular 2023-0018, is available to members and dependents aged 10 and above at six accredited hospitals in the region:
- Badian Primary Care Health Facility (Cebu) – General Mental Health Services
- Borbon Rural Health Unit (Cebu) – General Mental Health Services
- City of Bogo Health Office (Cebu) – General Mental Health Services
- Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (Tagbilaran City, Bohol) – General & Specialty Mental Health Services
- Medellin Rural Health Unit (Cebu) – General Mental Health Services
- San Remigio Mental Health Facility (Cebu) – General Mental Health Services
Patients can receive initial assessments, follow-up consultations, diagnostic tests, and psychosocial support for conditions such as depression, psychosis, epilepsy, dementia, self-harm risks, and child or adolescent behavioral disorders.
PhilHealth offers up to ₱9,000 annually for general mental health services and ₱16,000 for specialized care. Accredited Level 2 and 3 hospitals provide specialized mental health services, including access to psychiatrists, neurologists, and psychologists.
PhilHealth encourages individuals experiencing mental health distress or suicidal thoughts to seek immediate help through 24/7 crisis hotlines, such as the National Center for Mental Health hotline at 0917-899-8727 or (02) 989-8727.
PhilHealth Acting President and CEO Dr. Edwin Mercado emphasized the agency’s commitment to making mental health care more accessible.
“We recognize the importance of accessible mental health services for every Filipino. That’s why we continue to work with the Department of Health to expand our mental health programs. We are calling for more providers to participate and make these services within reach of Filipinos with mental health struggles,” he said.
