QC to host New Year celebrations in Banawe

To welcome the Chinese New Year, the Quezon City government will host a grand celebration in Banawe, the city’s vibrant Chinatown.

The event highlights the city’s commitment to promoting local tourism, offering visitors a unique blend of history, culture, and modern attractions.

The Office of the City Mayor said an exciting and colorful array of activities will take place on Wednesday, January 29. The festivities will kick off in the morning with a Dance Fit session, followed by a Ribbon Cutting to be led by Mayor Joy Belmonte, marking the official launch of the redesigned   City Chinatown—enhancing the area’s visibility as a key cultural, tourism, and commercial hub.

In a statement, Belmonte’s office said about fifty food and non-food businesses featuring QC’s artisanal delights as well as a gallery showcasing a wishing tree, a 360 Photobooth, and predictions to expect this Year of the Wood-Snake will be featured along Banawe, from Del Monte Avenue to Scout Alcaraz Street.

This grand opening will be followed by a traditional Dragon and Lion Dance and a Streetdance Competition, showcasing the creativity and talent of Quezon City’s youth.  A spectacular fireworks Display will light up the night sky, capping off what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of culture, community, and the spirit of the Chinese New Year.
