Boomi CTO pushes AI-powered digital transformation in Asia

David Irecki, the chief technology officer (CTO) for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) at Boomi, is at the forefront of driving innovation in intelligent integration, automation and AI adoption.

Under his leadership, Boomi—a global SaaS leader with over 23,000 customers and 800 partners—enables businesses to thrive by solving complex integration and data management challenges while laying the groundwork for AI-driven transformation.

AI adoption

Boomi’s value proposition lies in its powerful ability to seamlessly connect disparate systems within organizations, enabling the automation of critical business processes.

“We focus on APIs and the seamless, secure transaction of data, both internally and externally. Data management is key in today’s AI-driven world. By improving data quality across an organization, we help businesses leverage AI effectively, ensuring clean and reliable data feeds into large language models and AI agents,” Irecki said.

Boomi’s platform combines integration, API management and data governance to prepare businesses for AI adoption. The platform itself incorporates AI capabilities, simplifying its use for customers while empowering them to build robust systems that integrate seamlessly with existing and new technologies.

Driving innovation

Boomi has become a vital partner in digital transformation initiatives across various sectors in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines.

The company plays a key role in supporting the country’s digital development efforts, such as the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) and the Department of Budget and Management’s digital transformation roadmap.

Challenges like the digital divide, infrastructure gaps, and IT skills shortages remain pressing issues in the region. Boomi addresses these hurdles with its low-code platform, enabling non-technical professionals to contribute to digital projects.

PPP role

Irecki highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration to amplify the impact of digital initiatives. He also underscored the need for increased investment in education to prepare the workforce for the demands of AI and automation.

“Supporting educational programs and fostering digital literacy is critical for the Philippines and Southeast Asia. By equipping individuals with the necessary skills, we can unlock the full potential of AI and the digital economy,” he said.

AI predictions

Looking ahead, Irecki identifies two major trends for 2025. The first is AI readiness. He predicts that organizations will pivot their AI governance frameworks, ensuring ethical and responsible AI implementation. High-quality data and robust data management practices will be crucial to achieving this goal.

The second trend is the rise of AI agents. As businesses increasingly rely on these virtual assistants, the need for governance platforms to manage AI systems throughout their lifecycle will become imperative.

“AI agents will play a transformative role in business operations, eventually evolving into autonomous systems. However, we must ensure their responsible use through comprehensive AI governance platforms,” Irecki noted.

Job creation

Contrary to fears of AI-induced job displacement, Irecki believes the integration of AI will create opportunities.

He cited a report from the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines, which projects that AI could generate 1.1 million additional jobs in the country by 2028.

“Automation and AI free people from repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on higher-value activities. This drives innovation, increases competitiveness, and creates new opportunities for growth,” he explained.

Leadership

With a career spanning over 20 years, Irecki’s journey began as an embedded systems engineer in New Zealand before transitioning to defense and transportation in the UK. He eventually moved into the integration and automation space, joining Boomi in 2015.

Holding a Bachelor of Engineering from Massey University in New Zealand, Irecki brings a unique blend of technical expertise and leadership to his role as CTO.

Irecki and his team remain committed to advancing digital transformation and AI readiness across the region.
