National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to complete two major transmission projects totaling P12.34 billion by next year to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure.
NGCP vice president Cynthia Perez-Alabanza said the company expects to finish the Tuy-Dasmarinas 500-kilovolt transmission line and several substation upgrades in the Visayas region within 2026.
The Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay 138-kilovolt line is also slated for completion next year.
The P8.103-billion Tuy 500-kV substation project in Batangas is designed to facilitate the connection and dispatch of new electricity generating capacities to the national grid. A critical component of this development is the Tuy-Dasmarinas transmission line.
For the P4.237 billion Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay transmission project, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) recently moved the completion deadline to Aug. 31, 2026. The original target of May 31, 2025 was deemed unfeasible due to various execution hurdles.
NGCP began pre-construction activities for the Boracay-linked project in January 2017 but faced delays involving route selection, site conditions, right-of-way issues and procurement.
The project had reached 91.20 percent overall accomplishment as of July 31, 2025, according to the latest Transmission Project Status Report.
The ERC said the timeline adjustment was justified after reviewing technical realities and NGCP’s legal obligations.
The commission noted that completion is subject to unforeseen factors such as site workability and construction challenges.
Once finished, the project is expected to significantly improve the reliability of the power supply on Boracay island.
