The department commended the public participation, noting the importance of collective action for energy conservation amid global market disruptions in the Middle East and elsewhere.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. cited the broader significance of the annual event, saying that “Earth Hour reminds us that how we use energy affects us all and reflects not only our habits, but also the kind of future we choose to build for our nation and our planet.”

The president previously called on Filipinos to support the theme “Switch on Habits for Earth” and integrate energy-saving practices into their daily routines.

“Together, let us ensure that the light of the Filipino spirit continues to shine with hope for a brighter future for all,” Marcos said.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said that while the event is symbolic, its true value lies in long-term behavioral change. Garin said Earth Hour shows that when Filipinos act together, they can achieve meaningful reductions in energy demand.

She said that consistent energy efficiency is essential to address global challenges affecting fuel supply, electricity prices and overall energy security.

The department reiterated its call for the public to adopt energy-efficient practices at home and in the workplace to reduce electricity costs and support national goals of affordability and environmental protection.
