Globe gives free roaming to OFWs in ME

Globe Telecom is providing critical connectivity support to Filipinos in the Middle East, joining a government-led effort to maintain family ties during the regional crisis.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently ordered an inter-agency task force to assist Filipinos in the region, ensuring communication access for overseas Filipino workers and their families.

The initiative is being coordinated by the Department of Migrant Workers under Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac. In support of the president’s directive, National Telecommunications Commission Chairman Ella Blanca Lopez called on telecommunications providers to immediately assist in maintaining lines between overseas Filipinos and their families.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology, led by Secretary Henry Aguda, also directed telecommunications companies to ensure connectivity with OFWs in the Middle East.

Globe began mobilizing support measures March 1 as tensions escalated, becoming the first telecommunications provider to activate initiatives for overseas Filipinos in the region.

The company provided goodwill roaming packages for customers in Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

The complimentary package includes 15 minutes of incoming or outgoing roaming calls, 15 SMS and 1GB of data, valid for seven days from the time it is credited to the account. The offer is automatically seeded to Globe Prepaid, TM and Postpaid users detected in these areas.

For customers in Iran and Iraq, Globe provided load credits for Prepaid and TM users and bill adjustments for Postpaid users.

Customers receiving the roaming bundle may use Globe’s partner networks, including Pelephone, Cellcom Israel and Partner in Israel; zain BH and Batelco in Bahrain; Ooredoo and STC in Kuwait; Ooredoo and Oman Mobile in Oman; Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar in Qatar; Etisalat and DU Telecom in the UAE; and STC and zain SA in Saudi Arabia.
