Raslag eyes P3-b solar project

Raslag Corp. is allocating P2 billion to P3 billion for capital expenditures this year to fund the construction of its 100-megawatt Liwayway solar project in Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija.

The project, which includes a 100-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system, has a total cost of P7 billion pesos.

“It’s mainly for the importation of PV systems and for conversion expenses. For Liwayway,” Raslag chief finance officer Karl Geo Origeneza said on the sidelines of the Energyear Philippines 2026 forum.

The company’s 2025 capital expenditure was P500 million, primarily used for land acquisition.

“Management is expecting to roll it out or have the project in its testing and commissioning phase by the fourth quarter of 2027. That’s the initial plan. Hopefully, we still get to follow that timeline,” Origeneza said.

He added that the company is still in the land conversion process but hopes to start construction soon. Raslag is also open to taking on a partner to develop the Liwayway project.

“We’re open to it. It’s highly likely that we will,” he said.

Raslag announced in October that it awarded Greencity Energy Philippines Inc. the contract as the owner’s engineer for the project’s subsidiary, Raslag Liwayway Inc.

The company currently has 70 MW of existing capacity and is looking to participate in the next round of the Green Energy Auction Program to boost its portfolio. Raslag targets a capacity of 1,000 MW by 2035, with potential sites in Bataan and Tarlac.

“We’re also looking at expanding outside Luzon,” Raslag president and chief executive Robert Gerard Nepomuceno said.

“For GEAP, even if the price is low, there is no volatility. It’s also good to have that fixed pricing.”
