The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) teamed up with TESDA and StackTrek to launch the country’s first government-led Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tech Academy on Jan. 16, 2026.
The initiative aims to bridge the digital skills gap and modernize the nation’s economic zones by providing specialized training in high-growth sectors.
Based in the ETO Building in Cebu, the academy offers industry-driven programs in AI, data science, fintech, blockchain and other emerging technologies. The program supports a transition toward smart manufacturing and digital services, aligning with the Philippine AI Program Framework’s focus on high-performance computing and ethical research and development.
PEZA director-general Tereso Panga said the launch aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision for a digitally empowered and globally competitive Philippines.
For decades, PEZA has served as a catalyst for industrialization and job generation, and Panga noted that the agency is now strengthening that role by ensuring workers are equipped with skills demanded by future industries.
The project is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the PEZA board. The agency plans to pursue a multipartite agreement with TESDA, StackTrek and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to expand the academy’s reach nationwide.
The rollout will involve local government units hosting ecozones, KIST park developers and partner universities to maintain a steady pipeline of AI-ready talent.
TESDA Region VII director Gamaliel Vicente described the initiative as a timely response to the shifting global tech landscape. Under the collaboration, PEZA-registered workers can access these upskilling and reskilling programs free of charge.
StackTrek chief executive Billy Yuen reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to the academy. To support the initial rollout, Foundever Asia Inc. Manager for Real Estate and Facilities Paolo Villaba pledged IT assets to the facility.
The first batch of learners from PEZA locators has already commenced training.
CIB.O executive-director Buddy Villasis said the organization has campaigned for maximized participation since a soft launch in late 2025 and encouraged all companies to take advantage of the opportunity.
