NCR construction input prices rose 1% in December

The annual growth rate of the construction materials retail price index in the National Capital Region inched up to 1 percent in December 2025 from 0.9 percent in November, though it remained lower than the 1.5 percent increase recorded in December 2024.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the higher annual growth in December was mainly driven by a faster increase in the plumbing materials index, which rose to 0.5 percent from 0.3 percent a month earlier.

Other commodity groups also posted higher annual price increases during the month. Electrical materials rose by 1.9 percent from 1.8 percent in November, while painting materials and related compounds increased to 2.2 percent from 2.1 percent. Miscellaneous construction materials climbed to 0.8 percent from 0.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the annual decline in carpentry materials eased to 0.5 percent in December from 0.6 percent in the previous month.

Offsetting these gains, slower annual increases were recorded in masonry materials, which rose by 1.1 percent from 1.2 percent, and tinsmithry materials, which edged down to 1.7 percent from 1.8 percent in November. Othel V. Campos

For the full year of 2025, the annual average growth rate of the index in the NCR slowed to 1 percent from 1.2 percent in 2024. The PSA attributed this largely to slower price increases in carpentry, plumbing, tinsmithry and miscellaneous construction materials.

In contrast, electrical materials registered a faster annual average increase of 2 percent in 2025 from 1.3 percent a year earlier, while painting materials and related compounds rose by 2.3 percent from 2.1 percent. Masonry materials also recorded a higher annual average increase of 1 percent in 2025, compared with a flat rate in 2024.
