Lionsgate sells Lionsgate Play

Lionsgate said it sold its South Asia and Southeast Asia streaming platform, Lionsgate Play, to its regional president.

The transaction transitions ownership of the platform to Rohit Jain, who has spent the last eight years building and scaling the service across Asia. Following the deal, Jain will exit his role at the studio to focus entirely on managing the streaming service under a founder-led model.

While Lionsgate Play will now operate independently, the two companies have entered into a multiyear agreement. The deal allows the platform to continue using the Lionsgate Play brand name and grants it ongoing access to the studio’s library of films and television series.

Lionsgate chief operating officer Brian Goldsmith credited Jain with establishing the brand’s resonance in the region and noted that the executive possesses the entrepreneurial expertise to lead the platform through its next phase of growth.

The studio will retain all other film and television business interests in India and Southeast Asia. The move allows Lionsgate to maintain a presence in 1 of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets while shifting the operational responsibility of the streaming arm to regional leadership.

Lionsgate Play president Rohit Jain expressed gratitude to Lionsgate chief executive Jon Feltheimer and Goldsmith for the opportunity to transform the business into a premium destination for Hollywood content.
