The Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and social media platform TikTok have entered discussions to form a partnership aimed at boosting digital tax education and voluntary compliance for the 2026 National Tax Campaign.
The collaboration, discussed during a Jan. 12 meeting at the BIR National Office, seeks to utilize short-form video and creator-led materials to reach a younger generation of taxpayers. Under the proposal, TikTok will assist the bureau in disseminating tax messages during Tax Awareness Month, while the BIR will conduct workshops for the platform’s users and creators.
Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Charlie Mendoza said digital platforms are essential for modernizing tax administration and meeting taxpayers where they consume information.
Mendoza noted that the initiative aligns with presidential directives to simplify government transactions and Department of Finance goals to strengthen revenue collection through better taxpayer assistance.
“Information dissemination in digital platforms is no longer optional—it is necessary,” Mendoza said.
“We must go where the new generation of taxpayers are,” he said.
The BIR said it would facilitate on-site and online sessions covering registration, taxable income streams, filing procedures and common compliance issues. This move follows the agency’s broader digitalization efforts to streamline the Philippine tax system.
TikTok head of public policy for the Philippines Yves Gonzalez said the company is committed to helping Filipinos navigate their civic duties through relatable and engaging content.
Gonzalez said the platform looks forward to supporting the bureau as it launches an official TikTok channel.
Both organizations have agreed to appoint focal persons and establish a timeline for the rollout of collaborative content and workshops.
The official BIR TikTok account is expected to launch in the coming weeks.
