PSA: Rice imports plunged 94% in November

Rice imports into the Philippines dropped drastically in November 2025, with inbound shipments falling to 25,730 metric tons valued at $12.88 million.

This represents a decline of 94.5 percent in volume and 94.4 percent in value from a year earlier, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).PSA data showed that rice imports in November 2025 accounted for only 0.1 percent of the country’s total import value and 0.2 percent of total import volume.

Within food imports, rice represented 1.1 percent of total food import value and 2.3 percent of total food import volume, highlighting its reduced share in overall trade.

Vietnam remained the country’s dominant rice supplier during the month, accounting for 98.6 percent of total rice import value, or $12.70 million.

India supplied 0.8 percent, Pakistan 0.5 percent, and other sources contributed 0.1 percent.

Overall food imports also weakened, with the value declining to $1.18 billion in November 2025, down 13.2 percent from $1.36 billion in November 2024.

Food items made up 11.3 percent of the country’s total import value during the month.

In volume terms, food imports declined to 1.11 million metric tons in November 2025, a 29.4 percent decrease from 1.57 million metric tons in November 2024.

Food imports accounted for 10.7 percent of the country’s total import volume for the January-to-November 2025 period.
