Spanish firm to spend P15b for RE projects

Spanish firm ACCIONA Energía is spending P15 billion to complete two renewable energy projects totaling 281 megawatts this year under the fourth round of the Green Energy Auction Program.

Ignacio Domecq, ACCIONA Energía managing director for Southeast Asia, said the company expects to complete the two projects—the 101-megawatt Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna and the 108-MW peak Daanbantayan solar plant in Cebu—by the end of the year.

“In the Philippines, we are currently building two projects under GEA4 scheme. 281 MW in total with a capex of P15 billion,” Domecq said.

Both projects were awarded a commercial operations date by the Department of Energy for December 2026 under a 20-year power supply contract.

“Apart from that, we have a pipeline of 1.5 gigawatts of wind and solar PV projects we are developing for future construction,” he said, adding that the company will join future auctions held by the DOE.

ACCIONA Energía previously said the GEA-4 award provides long-term certainty for the energy these projects will produce, supporting the Philippines in reaching its renewable energy targets while delivering clean, reliable power to consumers.

The company recently reorganized its partnerships in Southeast Asia to strengthen its position in key markets, such as the Philippines and Thailand, where it holds substantial portfolios and plans to continue expanding.

ACCIONA has had a presence in the Philippines since 2016, primarily through its water and infrastructure divisions. It has delivered flagship projects such as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway and the Putatan II and Laguna Lake water treatment plants.

The company’s foundation, acciona.org, has supported rural and underserved communities in the country since 2021, bringing electricity to areas that previously lacked access.

Through collaborations with the Ayala Foundation and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, acciona.org has reached approximately 3,500 households, small businesses and community centers.

ACCIONA Energía describes itself as the world’s largest 100 percent renewable energy company with no fossil legacy. It has 15.1 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and a presence in 24 countries.
