Gov’t asked to streamline solar rooftop permits

The Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) called on the government to prioritize the improvement of the permitting process for solar rooftops in 2026 to unlock the potential of the energy sector.

PSSEA president Ping Mendoza said a recent meeting with Energy Secretary Sharon Garin showed a strong alignment in encouraging the shift toward distributed energy.

Mendoza said rooftop solar is quick to deploy and provides benefits that directly impact local communities and households.

Mendoza said while national targets remain ambitious, the reality of project development still faces delays. He urged for seamless coordination between the Department of Energy, Energy Regulatory Commission, local government units and vital agencies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples.

He said the goal is to implement a whole-of-government approach where local permits and land clearances are synchronized with national energy goals. Mendoza said the group seeks to end the era of fragmented approvals that stall critical infrastructure.
