The Department of Energy deployed a solar-powered mobile energy system to Pag-asa Integrated School on Pag-asa Island to provide reliable electricity to one of the country’s most remote off-grid communities.
The initiative marks the second mobile energy project of the department in 2025 as part of an effort to energize off-grid islands. The first system was donated to Balabac Central School in Palawan to provide uninterrupted power for education and essential community services.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin and National Power Corp. president Jericho Jonas Nograles led the turnover of the unit to the school.
“This mobile energy system helps make sure no child is left behind,” Garin said. She noted that the technology changes how education functions on the island by ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment without disruption.
The mobile units are designed for rapid deployment and consist of trailer-mounted solar panels equipped with battery storage and a hybrid inverter. The systems can be transported to far-flung islands or disaster-affected areas to provide immediate power when permanent infrastructure is unavailable or disrupted.
