Child-nutrition program expands to Mandaue City Central School

Bounty Cares Foundation is extending its child-nutrition initiative to Mandaue City Central School in Cebu, where it will open a new feeding facility in 2026 to support more undernourished learners in typhoon-affected communities.

This follows the foundation’s recently completed 120-day feeding program in Camarines Sur, one of the most disaster-prone provinces in Bicol. The province was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 during Super Typhoon Uwan and endured severe flooding from Tropical Storm Kristine in October 2024, conditions that continue to intensify hunger and child undernutrition.

In partnership with the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Bounty Cares provided sustained nutrition support to 300 severely malnourished children, helping them gain an average of 3.20 kilograms and lowering their risk of stunting and wasting.

Camarines Sur ranked 6th highest in undernutrition prevalence in Luzon based on 2022 National Nutrition Council data. Gainza town posted the highest rate of undernourished children in the province, underscoring the need for targeted interventions.

The program focused on children aged 5 to 9 identified as wasting or severely wasting from Gainza Central School, Dahilig Elementary School, Cagbunga Elementary School, Sampaloc Elementary School, and Loob Elementary School. Meals were anchored on high-protein food—Bounty Fresh chicken, pork, and eggs—along with vegetables, milk, and vitamins.

Before the program began in June, a GMA Kapuso Foundation nutritionist conducted baseline assessments. Parents also attended nutrition sessions on proper food preparation, hygiene, and vegetable gardening. Monthly monitoring tracked the children’s weight, attendance, and school performance.

“Nutrition plays an important role in a child’s development. In a time of severe malnutrition, we are glad to help children fight stunting and wasting and ensure they have access to nutritious food,” said Bounty Cares Foundation overall program head Evan Chen.
