Repower Energy Development Corp. (REDC) inaugurated its P4-billion Pulangi Hydropower Plant in Bukidnon, marking its ninth operating hydropower facility and first in the southern island of Mindanao.
The 18.2-megawatt (MW) run-of-river plant is projected to generate an average of 130 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually.
The Department of Energy (DOE) said the Pulangi plant is among the first hydropower facilities eligible for the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) new feed-in tariff round 4 (FIT-4), which has a preliminary rate of P6.38/kilowatt-hour (kWh).
“The commissioning of the Pulangi Hydropower Plant underscores our commitment to creating reliable, sustainable and community-aligned energy projects,” said REDC president Eric Roxas.
“Hydropower continues to play a vital role in securing the country’s clean energy future and we are proud to help strengthen Mindanao’s renewable energy infrastructure,” said Roxas.
REDC, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Cabanglasan Hydropower Corporation, said the plant is located at the borders of the City of Valencia and San Fernando in Bukidnon.
Attendees at the inauguration included Roxas, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, Pure Energy chairman and CEO Dexter Tiu, PSALM president and CEO Dennis Dela Serna, Tokai president Mitsugu Hamazaki, DOE Renewable Energy Management Bureau (REMB) director Marissa Cerezo, REDC chief finance officer Rolando Domingo, REDC chief operating officer Johnson Sanhi Jr, REDC director Ryotaro Sumi, REDC director Charlie Sy, REDC technical consultant Harald Tomintz and NexGen director Mark Canete.
