Maya, a leading digital bank in the Philippines, has rolled out support for Google Pay for Maya Credit Cards, becoming one of the first Philippine banks to enable Tap-to-Pay directly linked to credit accounts.
The integration allows Maya Credit Card users to securely tap their Android phones at any Visa or Mastercard contactless terminal worldwide.
The move marks a significant step in the country’s digital payments landscape by connecting mobile contactless payment directly to users’ existing credit lines. Most current mobile options rely on stored wallet balances, but Maya’s approach taps into the card account itself. Support for prepaid cards will follow, positioning Maya as the only fintech working toward a multi-card, cross-platform Tap-to-Pay experience in the country.
“We’re making Tap-to-Pay truly frictionless,” said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Bank president and co-founder.
“Whether you tap with a credit or prepaid card, and starting today with Google Pay, the experience will be instant, secure and seamless. Because Maya runs both the payments and banking rails, we can deliver an exceptional end-to-end customer experience,” said Baidwan.
