MWIS’ i-Tech Packaged Sewage Plant featured in UN WIPO’s book

Manila Water Infratech Solutions’ (MWIS) i-TECH Packaged Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has been recognized in the Green Technology Book – EXPO 2025 Special Edition, published by the United Nation’s World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The innovation was highlighted as one of the “Green Urban Energy Solutions in the Asia-Pacific Region – Energy Efficiency for Water Utilities” for its efficient wastewater treatment in small to medium settings.

The WIPO publication, launched in preparation for EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan, features over 200 energy technologies and solutions relevant to the Asia-Pacific region. This special edition aims to connect technology seekers and providers to diffuse innovative green technologies, placing intellectual property and innovation at the forefront of climate action.

MWIS’ i-TECH Packaged STP uses advanced membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology, which supports the push for energy-efficient aeration crucial for effective wastewater treatment.

The treated water is suitable for reuse in industrial processes and irrigation. The system’s compact nature makes it ideal for urban environments as it requires less space than conventional setups.

According to WIPO, water security remains critical, particularly in developing countries, where urban systems demand substantial energy for purification, pumping, and distribution. Innovations like the MBR-based system enable energy recovery and optimize usage, supporting more sustainable urban water systems.

MBR technology is increasingly adopted in China and Japan and is commonly used for industrial recycling, urban wastewater treatment, and decentralized setups in small communities or buildings. In addition to being space-efficient, it reduces the amount of sludge generated, lowering disposal costs. It also removes more contaminants, including viruses and bacteria, making it a sustainable and effective solution.

The feature in the Green Technology Book reflects MWIS’s commitment to providing scalable, smart and sustainable water solutions for industries and communities.

The resource is designed to give policymakers, innovators, businesses and solution seekers a forward-looking perspective on how energy technologies can drive sustainability.
