Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to immediately fill nearly 2,000 vacant engineering positions nationwide to accelerate infrastructure services.
The directive follows an order from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to provide opportunities for staff-level, as well as job order employees, to advance in their careers.
Dizon said the current employees of the DPWH, including job order employees, would be given priority in the hiring process.
“We must elevate the deserving, honest, hardworking people here in DPWH, including the job order employees. Just because you have been a job order for a very long time, it doesn’t mean you have no right and opportunity to rise,” Dizon said Monday.
“You will be the first ones considered for the almost 2,000 vacancies all over the country,” he said.
Dizon also announced the revival of the DPWH Cadet Engineering Program, which was established by former Secretary Rogelio Singson in 2013.
He said the program’s return is crucial to encourage young and new graduate engineers to help improve infrastructure across the country.
“This is very good for us to revive the DPWH with fresh blood… new fresh engineers who just passed [the board exam], who are newly working, which is why we will revive the Cadet Engineering Program,” Dizon said.
