The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said it is prepared to extend financial aid to its active members and old-age or disability pensioners in Davao Oriental after twin earthquakes struck the province and surrounding areas.
Qualified members and pensioners who live or work in the affected regions can borrow up to P40,000 if they have an existing emergency loan, or up to P20,000 if they do not, under the GSIS Emergency Loan Program.
“We are closely monitoring the situation in Davao and stand ready to provide immediate financial assistance to help our members and pensioners recover from the effects of the earthquakes,” said GSIS president and general-manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso.
The loan is payable over 36 months at 6-percent annual interest, with the initial payment due after three months.
Veloso said GSIS continues to process emergency loan applications promptly through its digital channels. Members can apply using the GSIS Touch mobile app, GWAPS kiosks, or over-the-counter, with the proceeds deposited directly to their GSIS ATM cards.
GSIS is also working with local government units to evaluate insured government properties that may have been damaged. This coordination is to ensure the speedy processing of insurance claims and the immediate restoration of public services.
“Just as we did in Cebu, GSIS will ensure that our members and pensioners in Davao receive the support they need to recover quickly. Our priority is to bring relief and security, especially in times of calamity,” Veloso said.
GSIS said that as of Oct. 12, 2025, the fund had already disbursed more than P346 million in emergency loans to over 12,000 members and pensioners in Cebu following a separate strong earthquake.
GSIS said it would also open its emergency loan window in other earthquake-hit areas once they are officially placed under a state of calamity.
