AMLC secures sixth freeze order, this time targeting assets of former government official

The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) said Friday it obtained its sixth freeze order from the Court of Appeals, expanding its coverage on assets allegedly linked to anomalies in flood control infrastructure projects.

The latest freeze order covers an additional 39 bank accounts, four insurance policies and 59 real estate properties including residential, commercial and agricultural assets.

“Several of these properties are linked to a former high-ranking government official suspected of playing a central role in the procurement process of the questioned flood control project contracts,” the AMLC said in a statement.

With the five freeze orders taking effect, the AMLC said a total of 1,671 bank accounts, 58 insurance policies, 163 motor vehicles, 99 real properties and 12 e-wallet accounts have been frozen.

This brings the total estimated value of frozen assets to P4.67 billion, which is still expected to rise as additional orders are secured.

The AMLC said it is working in close coordination with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, Office of the Ombudsman, Bureau of Internal Revenue and National Bureau of Investigation in its probe into the alleged flood control project irregularities.”The multi-agency effort includes a review of individuals and entities flagged during recent Senate hearings, underscoring the government’s commitment to a thorough and impartial inquiry,” it said.
