Department of Transportation (DOTr) acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez ordered the faster construction of relocation sites in Naic, Cavite for families who will be displaced by the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project.
The agency is funding the construction of the new residential areas. The move follows a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to speed up the project’s construction so affected residents can quickly move to new homes.
The DOTr confirmed it is speeding up the completion of 82 three-story buildings under the Social Housing Finance Corp. Twelve of these buildings are expected to be finished by December 2025, which will provide housing for 360 families.
During a visit to the relocation site, DOTr assistant secretary for right-of-way and site acquisition IC Calaguas and Naic Mayor Rommel Magbitang’s representative, city administrator Rodolfo Uy III said the compound would have complete facilities, including a school, day care centers, rural health centers and covered courts.
“We are thankful to the local government because if the local government of Naic does not support us, our relocation of the families who will be affected by the project will not be smooth,” Calaguas said.
The DOTr is also scheduled to visit another relocation site in Angeles City, Pampanga for residents who will be affected by the NSCR project.
