Keppel Ltd. said Monday the Bifrost Cable System has achieved “ready for service” (RFS) status and will begin carrying commercial traffic in the coming weeks.
The 20,000-kilometer cable is the world’s first subsea system to directly link Singapore to the U.S. West Coast via Indonesia, traveling through the Java and Celebes Seas. The new route, which includes a landing in Davao, provides a significant upgrade to digital infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region.
Bifrost introduces more than 260 terabits per second of additional capacity and enhances the resiliency of one of the world’s most active digital corridors. Keppel has been assigned five out of a total of 12 fiber pairs in Bifrost, which it jointly owns with private fund co-investors through a 40-60 joint venture.
“Keppel is proud to announce that the Bifrost Cable System has achieved Ready for Service status. This landmark project will bolster digital connectivity between Southeast Asia and the USA,” said Keppel Connectivity chief executive Manjot Singh Mann.
“The Bifrost Cable System will reinforce Singapore’s position as a leading digital hub in Asia and support the region’s rapidly growing digital economy,” he said.
