Aboitiz Upgrade Solar Inc., A joint venture between Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables Inc. (APx), and Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP), inaugurates a ground-mounted solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) in Balesin Island. With Balesin Island’s monthly energy consumption at about 700 MWh, the hybrid system is projected to meet 60 percent of the island’s energy demand, ensuring a more sustainable power supply. Speaking at the inauguration of the project on Sept. 19, 2025, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin says the hybrid system demonstrates how island resorts and remote tourist destinations can secure clean, reliable and affordable energy.
