DOE seeks to revive canceled RE projects

The Department of Energy (DOE) is exploring methods to advance renewable energy projects that were previously terminated due to delays or non-compliance.

“Every winning bidder under GEA [Green Energy Auction], they have a work program and they have a committed delivery commencement date,” said DOE assistant secretary Mylene Capongcol.

“So if they can’t meet that after their review and performance, then we will terminate,” she said.

Capongcol said the DOE had awarded about 1,400 renewable energy (RE) service contracts with a combined capacity of 130 gigawatts.

“Every now and then, there will be an entry and an exit because of the termination and because of the application. So, it’s like that,” Capongcol said.

“Our plan there is we would be able to at least remove the barriers in RE development so that we can at least benefit the available space and then the increased capacity in RE so that we can sustain our requirements,” she said.
