BOI approves P18.7-b food security projects

More affordable food and thousands of new jobs are on the way as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through the Board of Investments (BOI), approved 31 food security projects worth P18.7 billion under its Green Lane initiative as of June 30, 2025.

The approved ventures are expected to generate over 7,000 jobs nationwide, while boosting local food production and reducing consumer costs, which form part of the current administration’s push for food sustainability.

“These projects reinforce our dual objective, ensuring food security while creating sustainable employment. This is in line with President Marcos’ vision of empowering local producers and easing the burden on Filipino households,” said DTI Secretary and BOI chairman Cristina Roque.

The 31 Green Lane-certified projects include 17 breeder farms, eight fattening pig facilities, a feed mill, a cold storage facility, a greenhouse vegetable site, an integrated dairy farm, a wean-to-finish operation and a large coconut processing plant.

The coconut facility is projected to hire 4,725 workers, while the breeder farms are expected to generate 1,009 jobs.

Data showed that of the projects, 17 are in the pre-development stage, seven are under construction, six are operational and one is preparing to begin operations.

Since its launch in February 2023, the Green Lane initiative has approved 222 strategic projects worth a combined P5.75 trillion in investments and carries the potential to generate over 319,000 jobs.

Most Green Lane approvals are in renewable energy, with 176 projects, followed by 31 in food security, nine in digital infrastructure and public-private partnerships (PPP) and six in manufacturing.

Launched in 2023, the Green Lane initiative was designed to fast-track priority investments aligned with the country’s development goals, particularly in energy and food security.
