PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. and Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) have activated the Matab-ang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Barangay Granada, an upgrade expected to increase output to 6 million liters per day (MLD) within the year, strengthening Bacolod’s water supply.
The operational upgrade currently provides an additional 3 MLD, addressing long-standing concerns about unreliable service and low pressure in Barangays 27, 28, 29, 30, Villamonte, Estefania and Mandalagan.
Approximately 5,000 households are already benefiting from the improved supply and water quality.
With the projected increase to 6 MLD, an additional 5,000 households are expected to be served within the year.
This development is part of a long-term joint venture between PrimeWater and BACIWA to modernize the city’s water infrastructure through targeted investments in treatment facilities, distribution lines and sustainable water sourcing.
“Our commitment is not just to restore, but to strengthen service delivery across Bacolod,” PrimeWater management said in a statement Friday.
“The Matab-ang WTP is a strong foundation, and we’re on track to increase its output to 6 MLD within the year to meet the city’s growing demand.”
Additional enhancements to the city’s water system are planned as part of PrimeWater-BACIWA’s broader roadmap for infrastructure resilience and service reliability.
Local officials and stakeholders have welcomed the improvement, citing better daily access to clean water. The project also features advanced filtration systems, ensuring the increased volume does not compromise water safety or quality.
