The management of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 said it suspended its old policy restricting heavy hand-carried luggage inside trains, prioritizing the comfort and welfare of commuters.

The decision came after Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon raised concerns about the policy, stressing that it should not further burden passengers.

Luggage exceeding two feet by two feet were not allowed inside MRT-3 trains.

MRT-3 general manager Michael Capati said he is committed to reviewing the policy to ensure the comfort and welfare of commuters.

“The MRT-3 management assures the public that their inputs are always considered in crafting policy decisions,” Capati said.

The DOTr earlier extended its services by an hour to accommodate more passengers.

It also ordered the deployment of additional trains to service more passengers and eliminate long queues at key stations during peak hours in the morning and afternoon.

MRT-3 runs from North Ave. in Quezon City to Taft Ave. in Pasay City. Exceeding its design capacity of 350,000 passengers per day, the system accommodates over 500,000 passengers daily.
