US companies and Philippine educational institutions signed agreements Friday in support of building the country’s nuclear workforce.
EōS Organization, a global leader in advancing energy solutions, announced key partnerships and initiatives designed to accelerate nuclear energy development in the Philippines.
“By investing in educational pathways, we are ensuring that Filipino students are at the forefront of nuclear innovation,” said Aaron Green, chief executive of EōS Organization.
These efforts include strategic agreements with Fulbright Philippines, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and support for the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) through Valar Atomics’ pioneering gigasite model.
A P192-million grant to the Philippine Nuclear Science Foundation (PNSF) further reinforces the research and development of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies.
US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, who witnessed the signing ceremony, said building a civil nuclear industry requires a skilled workforce to bring that technology to life and maintain it safely.
“I am honored to witness the signing of two memoranda of understanding [MOUs] to support civil nuclear workforce development in the Philippines, marking the first US private sector commitments in the Philippines’ nuclear sector. This is a direct outcome of our 123 agreement and the Philippine International Civil Nuclear Supply Chain Forum that the United States and the Philippines co-hosted in November 2024,” she said.
EōS, in collaboration with Fulbright Philippines, said it is committed to cultivating the next generation of Filipino nuclear professionals.
“The MOU between EoS and Fulbright Philippines is just the start of a journey toward economic security for both the United States and the Philippines. Banking on US expertise in civil nuclear energy and the Fulbright program, the partnership also highlights the importance of private sector investment in workforce development. An energy secure Philippines makes it an even more important partner in making the US more prosperous and secure,” said Fulbright executive director Julio Amador III.
The initiative includes establishing fellowships, training programs and educational initiatives focused on nuclear energy, facilitating exchange programs that provide Filipino students access to US institutions for specialized nuclear science and engineering training and allocating up to U$$400,000 to accelerate the growth of the Philippines’ nuclear expertise.
