The country’s finance leaders should use their expertise to help ensure national resources are used for the betterment of Filipino lives, a top executive of PHINMA Corp. said.

“As finance professionals, we cannot stay silent when we see concerning patterns in public spending,” said PHINMA chairman and chief executive Ramon del Rosario Jr.

“We should not just be guardians of corporate bottom lines; we should be stewards of our nation’s dignity and well-being,” he said.

Del Rosario spoke during the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) 2025 induction ceremonies at the Makati Diamond Residences.

He cited this year’s P6.32 trillion national budget, noting cuts to education and health care budgets compared with more than P260 billion added for public works projects during bicameral committee meetings.

“Our role is not merely to crunch numbers, but to safeguard the dignity of every Filipino by ensuring that our nation’s resources are used wisely and equitably,” said del Rosario, who also chairs the PHINMA-DLSU Center for Business and Society Board of Trustees.

“We must bring our technical expertise to the forefront of budget discussions, providing independent analysis and evidence-based recommendations,” he said.

Del Rosario urged FINEX to explain complex budget issues to the public, collaborate with advocacy groups to push for beneficial reforms, and advocate for using national resources to strengthen institutions.

“As we celebrate the induction of new officers, let us also reaffirm our commitment to being a force for good, to using our skills and our influence to build a nation that truly works for everyone,” he said.

Among the inductees was PHINMA chief financial officer and FINEX president EJ Qua Hiansen, who accepted the challenge and urged fellow finance leaders to foster positive societal change.
