EKPI to install solar at Laguna plant

MSpectrum, Inc., a wholly owned solar subsidiary of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has partnered with food manufacturer Edward Keller Philippines Inc. (EKPI) to install a 630 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar facility at EKPI’s industrial facility in Carmelray Industrial Park in Laguna.

The project, targeted for completion in the second quarter of 2025, is expected to generate 714,553 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually.

“This project not only helps us cut energy costs by P1.2 million a year, but also helps us reduce our carbon footprint by 422 metric tons,” EKPI President Alexander Ong Oh said.

The 422 metric tons reduction in EKPI’s carbon footprint is equivalent to 23,000 trees planted and more than 2.03 million kilometers reduced in vehicle travel per year.

The solar project will also allow EKPI lock in its energy costs for the next 10 years and ensure its business remains operational even in the event of scheduled power interruptions.

“We would be counting on MSpectrum to help us achieve this, and we look forward to future collaborations, possibly adding more solar generation,” Oh said.

EKPI is one of the brands of DKSH Philippines that manufacture ingredients for food, personal care, specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical industries.
