The Philippine Fuzhou Shiyi Townmate Association inaugurated its 86th and 87th terms of officers on Jan. 15, 2026 at The Century Seafood Restaurant in Manila.
Lin Weizhao was elected as the organization’s chairman during the ceremony, which drew high-ranking local officials and leaders from the Filipino-Chinese business community.
Philippine Fuzhou Shiyi Townmate Association chairman Lin Weizhao donated P100,000 to the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) as part of the “Allowance for Lost Filipino-Chinese Students” project. The contribution followed his formal induction into the leadership role.
The event featured several prominent guests, including former National Security Adviser Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. and Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza.
Representatives from the Malaysia Fuzhou Townmate Association and various local community leaders also attended to witness the transition of leadership.
FFCCCII vice president Delfin Letran highlighted the economic significance of Fuzhou, noting its status as the capital of Fujian Province.
Letran described the city as a historic cultural hub and a strategic gateway for China’s open-door policy, particularly due to its location on the southeast coast.
Fuzhou maintains robust industrial capabilities in sectors such as the digital economy, green energy, advanced manufacturing and ocean development. Letran noted that overseas Chinese from Fuzhou Shiyi are known for their mutual support and dedication to their hometown’s development.
The FFCCCII intends to cooperate with the Fuzhou Shiyi Townmate Association to further economic and cultural exchanges between the Philippines and China.
Both organizations expressed a commitment to strengthening bilateral friendship through continued community engagement.
