The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) is actively promoting employment opportunities in Taiwan for Filipino workers, with salaries starting at P52,000 a month and potential for growth.
MECO director Cesar Chavez said the minimum monthly salary in Taiwan is 28,590 New Taiwan dollars, which is about P52,000.
Workers in Taiwan also have the chance to earn additional income through overtime work, with many Filipino workers benefiting from extra hours.
Chavez said Taiwanese employers strictly adhere to recruitment rules and hire workers directly, unlike other countries that often require the payment of broker fees.
This ensures a more transparent and efficient hiring process for Filipinos seeking employment in Taiwan.
The majority of the job opportunities available are in the manufacturing sector, particularly in high-demand industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) chips and other components. These industries offer substantial growth potential for workers, with increasing demand for skilled labor.
As of January 2024, there were about 150,000 overseas Filipino Workers in Taiwan. While most are employed in factories, around 24,000 work in housekeeping positions.
The ongoing promotion by MECO aims to provide Filipinos with more opportunities for stable and well-compensated work abroad, helping them secure better livelihoods for themselves and their families.
