The Chinese Filipino Business Club Inc. (CFBCI) and Universidad de Manila (UDM) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) at UDM’s Accreditation Room in Ermita, Manila on Nov. 11, 2024.
The agreement aims to support deserving but financially-challenged students through scholarship programs.
CFBCI was represented by executive vice president Gerald Uy Chan, director/treasurer Richard Alviar and director/chairman of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Committee William Rogando.
UDM was represented by president Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, vice president for academic affairs Dr. Ronald Herrera and vice president for student success and support services Rodolfo Castillo.
In his opening remarks, Herrera shared the history of UDM, which has grown from its humble beginnings in 1995 to become a respected institution offering 14 programs officially recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
UDM is particularly noted for its emphasis on equal opportunities and its success in criminology and social work programs.
He said the university’s mission is to uplift lives through quality education, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Castillo highlighted the ongoing partnership between CFBCI and UDM, emphasizing the invaluable role CFBCI has played in providing financial aid and holistic support to the university’s students.
He expressed deep appreciation for the continued generosity of CFBCI in helping shape the futures of UDM students.
Carlos-Tria expressed gratitude to CFBCI for its longstanding support, noting that UDM has been a partner school of the organization since 2009.
CFBCI executive vice president Gerald Uy Chan reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to helping young people, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds, pursue higher education.
Herrera referred to the partnership as a “fusion of two vital sectors: business and education” and expressed optimism that the collaboration would continue to make a positive impact on the lives of UDM students.
