The United Kingdom asked the Philippines to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade alliance similar to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership to better align bilateral interest.
British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils said joining the CPTPP is a great opportunity for members as it is “the gold standard of international trade agreements.”
“And we’d very much like it if the Philippines were to consider doing something similar. And indeed, we’d be happy to share our experience in terms of the process that we followed,” she said Friday at the webinar Breaking Economic Barriers: The Philippines Road to Further Liberating its Economy organized by the British Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines.
The CPTPP is a free trade agreement between Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
