Cebuano bet John Ceniza almost matched the national records he set last January when he finished eighth place in the men’s 61 kg class in the ongoing 2021 World Weightlifting Championships.

The 23-year-old Ceniza, who set new Philippine marks when he competed in the 2020 World Cup, lifted 115 kgs in the snatch, 150 in the clean and jerk, and totalled 265.

Ceniza’s efforts were behind his recording-setting feats of 117, 152, and 269 when he competed in Rome 11 months ago.

Ceniza, who is also a  silver medalist in the Southeast Asian Games, was way behind Korean Shin Rok, who swept all the three gold medals at stake.

Shin came up with a total of 288 kgs, with 132 coming from snatch and 156 by way of clean and jerk.

Shota Mishvelidze of Georgia captured the silver for the total at 286. He also brought with him the silvers from snatch (131) and clean and jerk (155).

Saudi Arabia’s Seraj Al Saleem completed the main podium with 282 kgs.
