Vice presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Friday rejoined her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).
Duterte reassumed chairmanship of the HNP after she took her oath earlier Friday.
Last November 11, Sara officially became a member of Lakas-CMD, and was offered the party’s chairmanship, which she accepted Thursday.
In a statement, HNP secretary general and former congressman Anthony Del Rosario said: “We are very grateful for the enormous trust and opportunity afforded by Lakas-CMD to Mayor Sara, whom we describe as one of the country’s best political women leaders of her time.”
“Mayor Sara’s re-appointment as our chairperson became possible as both parties’ Constitution and By-Laws do not prohibit membership and appointment as officer, since HNP is a regional political party,” del Rosario added.
Del Rosario stressed Sara’s role as concurrent Chairperson of both HNP and Lakas-CMD will further strengthen the alliance between the two parties.
“An alliance that will promote a strong people-centered development throughout Davao Region and the Philippines,” he said.
“On behalf of the officers and members of HNP throughout the Davao region, we welcome back our beloved Mayor Sara. Padayon ta sa paglupad! (Let’s continue to fly),” he added.
The Lakas-CMD has yet to issue a statement on the matter as of press time.
