Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, who rejected endorsements from political parties to join their senatorial lineup, has vouched for the leadership of Partido Reporma presidential candidate Sen. Panfilo Lacson and his running mate, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, for next year’s national elections.
“I admire the duo of Sen. Ping and Sen. Sotto very much because from the start they bonded together under a platform of peace and order, and countryside development- issues very close to the heart of a ‘probinsyana’ like me,” stressed Torres-Gomez.
The congresswoman was the Guest Speaker during Ormoc City’s 75th Charter Day celebration and in the event of Governor Edwin Jubahib of Davao Del Norte for the oathtaking of Partido Reporma members of Leyte.
Lacson is seeking the country’s highest post for the second time, while Sotto is running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, where he sits as president.
Although Lacson belongs to another political party, Sotto remains confident his party will rally behind his partner’s presidential run. He said they will meet with Lacson for a dialogue soon.
“He is my endorsed candidate for our party. I expect many of my partymates will support him,” said Sotto, adding that he does not know of any other presidential contenders being supported by his partymates.
Aside from her admiration to the Lacson-Sotto tandem, Torres-Gomez also aired her appreciation on how the duo conducted themselves in a stately manner, standing on their strengths and shared vision as they offered themselves as candidates for the coming 2022 elections.
Initially, Torres-Gomez was included in the senatorial slate of Lacson-Sotto, but opted to instead run for mayor of Ormoc, Leyte – succeeding her husband, former actor Richard Gomez.
She was also being considered by the faction of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi as one of its senatorial candidates under the ruling PDP-Laban.
Meanwhile, through their “online kumustahan,” which kicked off Sunday,
Lacson and Sotto III have remained in touch with the people to get a feel of their problems and concerns and to answer questions they may have, without putting anyone’s health at risk.
They vowed that the Lacson-Sotto tandem will continue to draw ideas from ordinary Filipinos in crafting their roadmap after June 2022.
“The roadmap is a work in progress, and Online Kumustahan activities like this would be the way to go,” Lacson said.
