Taguig City Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano is not seeking reelection next year, instead giving way to his sister-in-law, incumbent Taguig City Rep. Laarni Cayetano, who is now running for city chief executive.
“I will give way and I fully accept it because I believe in the leadership of Ate Lani,” said Mayor Cayetano.
On Friday, the last day of filing of certificates of candidacy, Laarni officially launched her bid for the city’s mayoral seat, a position she held previously for three terms.
Her running mate under the Nacionalista Party will be Arvin Alit, an incumbent councilor in the city’s second district.
Laarni is the wife of incumbent Taguig-Pateros Rep. and former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, who is seeking to return to the Senate next year.
Meanwhile, incumbent Vice Mayor Ricardo Cruz Jr., a political ally of the Cayetanos, also filed his certificate to represent the Taguig-Pateros district.
