2 Deputy Speakers, Lopez seek reelection

Two more House leaders are seeking reelection for their respective congressional posts.

Manila 1st District Rep. Manuel Luis Lopez, running under PDP-Laban, on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy to seek a third and final term as congressman of his bailiwick in Tondo.

Instead of running for mayor of Manila, as earlier reported, Lopez said he decided to finish his term to complete his projects and legislative agenda and serve his constituents in his home district.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Rep. Eddie Villanueva also filed his candidacy under the Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) party-list.

Deputy Speaker Marlyn Alonte also filed Friday her certificate of candidacy for reelection as representative of the Lone District of Biñan City in Laguna.

“I thank President Rodrigo Duterte for endorsing me as PDP-Laban’s mayoralty candidate in Manila. But after much reflection, I respectfully informed him of my desire to finish my term in Congress. The President graciously acceded to my request,” said the son of former Manila Mayor Mel Lopez Jr.

Represented by CIBAC officers during the filing on Friday, Villanueva, the Deputy Speaker for Good Governance and Moral Uprightness, said that his passion for pursuing good governance and righteous leadership never wanes with age.
