Television host Kim Atienza explains his transfer from ABS-CBN, his home network, to GMA 7.
“It was a tough decision to make. What’s even harder was, I’m friends with my bosses and they took good care of me. In my 17 years with ABS-CBN, those three days two weeks ago were the hardest. It was three days in a row and those were three bosses that I had to say goodbye to,” Kuya Kim shared in a virtual junket a day after his grand welcome in GMA on Oct. 4.
The grand welcome was made on the network’s flagship newscast 24 Oras where Kuya Kim will soon be seen as one of its segment hosts. He received welcome messages from Kapuso stars and executives led by GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.
“Nothing happens by accident. I was given this opportunity by GMA-7 and I intend to make the most out of this opportunity,” he said.
Apart from 24 Oras, the 54-year-old triathlete, wellness and biodiversity advocate will also be part of Mars Pa More and GTV’s upcoming news magazine show Dapat Alam Mo.
Meanwhile, speaking to Manila Standard Entertainment, Kuya Kim likened the feeling of jumping from ABS-CBN to GMA to the experience OFWs go through whenever they leave their families behind to look for better opportunities elsewhere.
“When you leave, it doesn’t mean that you no longer love your family. I’m stepping into an opportunity that is so good that it would be a sin not to be able to take it. I’m sad, it was bittersweet. They were sad to lose me and I was sad that I had to say goodbye to them, but the opportunity that GMA offered was so good and it felt that it was the right thing to do, and my previous network realized that,” Kuya Kim admitted.
With a career spanning 17 years in the broadcast industry, Kuya Kim is known for the weather updates he creatively presents and various trivia he graciously shares. He also inspires people to lead healthier life with his love for sports.
A known advocate of wildlife preservation, Kuya Kim also uses his influence to spread awareness in protecting the environment.
As he embarks on his journey as a Kapuso, he says he embraces the opportunity to try new things and thanks everyone in GMA for the warm welcome he received.
“Everything just felt surreal, this opportunity and the grand welcome they gave me,” Kuya Kim ended.

Yorme’s running mate
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has expressed the common denominator between him and Sailun, a brand of trusted tires.
In an interview with Sailun tires, he highlights the current situation in his locality and gives importance to how the right elements, quality service, and ideas can bring an improvement of lives.
Centered on Sailun tires’ key qualities of durability, affordability, and safety, Yorme showed how his values were in line with the brand, and how it’s important for him to have a partner in fulfilling his duties. One that brings forth mutually beneficial services in all aspects: starting with providing caliber education, helping people out in any way possible, to making sure that these services are accessible for, and will bring out the best in all in the near future.
“These are what give an extra layer of confidence and trust in both brands and in people – the genuine care and concern to spike improvement,” Yorme said.
“We vouch for those who will be with us, through all challenges, through highways and bumps on the road. Those who are going to remain with us through every turn,” added an executive from Sailun.
