Upcoming first and original drag reality series, Drag Den Philippines bangs open its doors for auditions for all drag artists across the country. Promoting individuality and inclusivity, the show welcomes all kinds of drag—from “bio queens” (female drag queens) to “drag kings” (women dressing up as men).
Led by the international drag icon, Manila Luzon, Drag Den Philippines joins hand with world-leading short video platform, TikTok, where they launched and are holding their auditions. The TikTok campaign hashtag #DragDenPHAudition hits the top trending topics on the app with over 1.5 million mentions and counting.
Going by their catch phrase, “Dragdagulan na! (a gay slang for ‘Let the drag showdown begin!’)”, the show forefronts the local queer culture and brand of humor, evident with their call for auditions video that is a parody of the viral Filipino meme and modern Pinoy caricature, “Lyn From Las Vegas”, played by no other than the face of the show herself, Manila Luzon.
The video shocked social media and reaped overwhelming positive responses from Filipinos and fans around the globe, commending Manila Luzon for being brave and “game” to explore the Pinoy variety of spoof.
The show’s and its creators’ love for the Pinoy drag community extends beyond looping in with zappy jargons: their heart goes for the queens. Drag Den Philippines generously offers their finalists free airfare for participants living outside the National Capital Region, free accommodation throughout the run of the show, and hand-in-hand support with Filipino fashion designers for drag costumes.
Grand cash prizes and cosmetic brand sponsorships are just the finishing razzle dazzle of Drag Den’s bonanza: The show teases a career and livelihood showcase among other queenly perks for the “Philippines’ First Ever Drag Supreme”, courtesy of Cornerstone Entertainment Inc. and WeTV, the show’s official streaming platform partner.
Interested auditionees may submit their entries until Aug. 31, 11:59 p.m. (PH Time) on the show’s official social media affiliate, TikTok. All applicants must be Filipino citizens residing in the Philippines and are at least 18 years of age.
