For the sixth year in a row, the City Government of Navotas has received the highest audit rating from the Commission on Audit (COA).
COA gave an “unmodified opinion” on the city’s presentation of its 2020 financial statements.
Navotas has received the same rating since 2016, the only local government in Metro Manila to have such a record.
Mayor Toby Tiangco commended the department heads and employees of the city government for performing their duties well, despite the unconventional working conditions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
“The pandemic has forced us to realign most of our funds for COVID response. It was difficult to let go of some planned projects and programs, but we had to prioritize spending on personal protective equipment, relief packs, cash assistance, and other urgent needs,” he said.
“We had to optimize the use of our meager budget and make sure that we spend our people’s taxes judiciously. Getting the highest COA rating, for six years now, is but an icing on the cake. Our focus remains on giving the best service we could give to every Navoteño,” Tiangco said.
COA gives an unmodified opinion to a public institution that has presented its financial position, financial performance, and cash flows in a fair manner and in accordance with the Philippine Public Sector Accounting Standards.
