Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, reported Monday a 4.1-percent month-on-month growth in sales in July.

The company said sales of commercial vehicles lifted sales by 232.1 percent in July to 93 from 28 units in June. Passenger car sales increased 3.8 percent to 412 units in July from 397 units in June while light commercial vehicle sales declined 12.1 percent to 340 from 397 units.

It said the locally-assembled Hyundai Accent continued to be the growth driver for the passenger car segment with a 23.9-percent increase in sales in July.

HARI said sales in the first seven months went down by 18 percent to 7,008 units from 8,542 units in the same period last year.

Both passenger cars and commercial vehicle sales suffered gross declines. Passenger car sales dropped 26.5 percent to 2,979 from 4,054 units in the seven-month period, while light commercial vehicles posted slower sales of 3,177 units, down by 26.7 percent from 4,332 units.

Sales of commercial vehicles grew by 447.2 percent to 832 units from 156 units, but this strong growth was not sufficient to make up for the losses in passenger and light commercial vehicle segments.

Hyundai attributed the strong performance of the commercial vehicles segment to the robust sales of Hyundai HD65, Hyundai HD36trucks and Hyundai HD50S.

Hyundai trucks became the choice of last-mile logistics providers and government agencies because of their tough build, dependability and flexible platform.

Hyundai’s modern jeepney line also gained considerable presence in Northern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
