Several Filipino companies were recognized for promoting sustainable business practices. Citicore Power Inc., through subsidiary Citicore Renewable Energy Corp., was chosen as a finalist in the Europa Awards. In recognition of the urgency of sustainability and in line with the European Commission’s efforts on the European Green Deal, the European Chamber of Commerce Chamber of the Philippines organized the first Europa Awards on June 10, 2021.
The Europa Awards seeks to promote and recognize companies with exceptional performance and contributions in promoting sustainability in line with global standards and the Philippine Development Plan.
Citicore is among five local companies selected as finalists for the Clean and Efficient Energy Award, bestowed to entities that have successfully incorporated the use of clean energy and accelerating efficient practices in day-to-day operations.
The company was also recognized for promoting the government’s thrust to reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions by 70 percent by 2030, as committed in the Paris agreement.

Tan said the award, as one of the sustainability champions, is a testament to the commitment and vision that Citicore employees continuously exhibit in their work.
"This recognition is a timely opportunity to showcase what we can offer as a renewable energy company –transforming natural resources into human resource as we empower communities and inspire a collective movement towards net zero carbon emissions,” said Tan.

More than 70 entries were submitted from mid-March until the end of April, but only 22 entries were chosen as finalists for their outstanding sustainability efforts and initiatives across six categories.
The six categories of the Europa Award are Smart and Safer Mobility Award, Clean and Efficient Energy Award, Circular Economy Award, Sustainable Food and Nutrition Award, Green and Inclusive Finance Solutions Award and Water Resource Management Winner Award.
