Grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines on Tuesday placed the Luzon grid on yellow alert for several hours amid low power reserves.
NGCP raised the yellow alert from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on July 13 as net operating margin reached only at 143 megawatts. Power demand climbed to 10,924 MW against available capacity of 11,067MW.
“Four plants are on unplanned outage and three plants have derated capacities, for a total of 1,522 MW unavailable energy,” NGCP said.
The power plants that were on forced outages included Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. (460 MW), Pagbilao Unit 2 (382 MW), GMEC Unit 1 (316 MW) and Calaca Unit 2 (300 MW). Meanwhile, plants with derated capacities also affected available power supply.
NGCP lifted the yellow alert at 1:10 p.m. for the Luzon grid as rain in many areas helped temper demand in the grid. Alena Mae S. Flores
