DOTR spends P1b for bicycle lanes

The Department of Transportation said Monday it spent P1.09 billion for the installation of bike lanes in the National Capital Region, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao as part of the government’s goal to promote active transportation in the country.

The agency and the Department of Public Works and Highways completed the installation of 497 kilometers of pavement markings, physical separators and road signage in the three metropolitan areas. The completed bike lanes in Metro Cebu, Metro Davao and NCR will be inaugurated this month.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the installation of pavement markings, physical separators and road signage showed how committed the DOTr was in promoting active transportation and ensuring the safety of pedestrians.

“It is in fulfilling the desire of the public and commuters that the Department of Transportation has been implementing projects geared towards that end,” Tugade said.
